Huestis Industrial's custom Spoolers and Coilers are designed to produce neat, uniformly wound packages free of defects. Saving valuable downtime, they are ideal as an off-line quality inspection system that will not interrupt the manufacturing process.

They may also be used as a remedial measure to compensate for poorly wound spools resulting from inadequate take-ups on older processing lines.

Variable Number and Size of Spools

• Spoolers can be designed to handle any number and size of spools.
• Spool weight is a determining factor in designing the size of the spindle and drive horsepower required.

Properly Matched Process Speeds

• Process speeds are matched to individual application requirements to help eliminate overcapacity costs.
• Options include economical variable speed or constant speed which varies spindle rpm to compensate for the increase in line speed as the spool increases in diameter.
• Constant speed option allows spooling at maximum speed or helps keep inspection conditions constant.

Ramping

• Smooth/ gradual or instantaneous shock loading systems are available.
• Optional accumulators help provide smoothness and control to the system.

Back Tension Options

• Variable tension allows adjustment for ideal tension over many wire sizes.
• Proper variable tension range allows the braking system to handle torque produced by the continuously changing package core to package O.D. ratio.
• Constant tension can be provided with a dancer to automatically adjust pay-off drag.
• Load cells offer precision measurement.
• Minimal tension systems handle very sensitive or light gauge product.

Wire Traverse vs. Oscillating Spool

• Traverse systems move the wire back and forth along the horizontal face of the spool to provide uniform winding.
• Oscillating spool systems oscillate the spool while the centerline of the product remains fixed.
• Oscillating systems are ideal for flat wire, fiber-optic cable and other products that do not allow for camber induced by traverse systems.

Flaw Detection

• Spooler can be used as an automatic flaw detection system using a sparker, dia. gauge or other inspection device.
• Simple flaw counting systems count the number of flaws on the spool.
• “Auto-reversing to flaw” systems can indicate when a flaw is detected, then automatically stop and back up to the flaw for immediate operator repair, tag or removal.
