SoundBarrier™ — Frequently Asked Questions

Included please find answers to some of our most common SoundBarrier questions.

What does SoundBarrier do?

Huestis Industrial's SoundBarrier™ Air Wipe sound and liquid containment system significantly decreases Air Wipe noise levels. SoundBarrier works with Huestis Industrial Air Wipes to help block noise associated with drying wire, cable and other extruded products.

How is liquid contained by SoundBarrier?

SoundBarrier not only decreases noise levels, it contains liquids removed by typical air wipe applications. SoundBarrier is a self-contained, stainless steel enclosure with integral gaskets that block liquids from exiting once they are removed from the product. Liquids removed by the Air Wipe can be reclaimed and recycled through a drain in the bottom of the stainless housing.

How do Air Wipes mount to SoundBarrier?

SoundBarrier features a corrosion resistant housing, quick air disconnects and a hinged top cover for easy threading and Air Wipe access. The Air Wipe is mounted directly to an integral splashguard inside the housing. The quick-disconnect air fittings thread through the rear wall of the housing for easy connection to the factory air supply.

How is Soundbarrier installed in a process line?

The adjustable height, freestanding enclosure is positioned directly in-line with the process and secured to the floor via four supplied floor mounting holes. The height of the enclosure is easily adjusted by turning an adjustment nut on the base shaft. Screws in the frame tube secure the enclosure in place once it is at the proper height. A threaded drain plug is provided at the bottom of the unit for easy connection to a fluid recycling or disposal system.

How effective is Soundbarrier at blocking noise?

Combined with Air Wipes already low noise levels due to controlled airflow, SoundBarrier's noise suppressing design offers extremely quiet operation. Typical applications often see a 6 dB* reduction in sound pressure levels. See our Sound Pressure Levels comparisons for more.

Is there any required maintenance?

SoundBarrier requires very little maintenance. The inlet/exit guides will wear over time and must be inspected periodically. The guides (Huestis part no. SE-137) are readily available. Guides can also be purchase with pre-punched holes. Contact Huestis Industrial for complete details.
